Rethinking Teaching and Assessment in the Age of Generative Artificial Intelligence

The rapid growth of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) is bringing major changes to the field of education and raising important questions about the future of teaching and assessment. This study explores how Generative AI is influencing educational practices, especially the ways teaching and evaluation are carried out. It highlights the shift from traditional teacher-centered methods to more flexible and learner-centered approaches supported by AI technologies. The study also explains how assessment practices are changing from focusing only on final outcomes to giving importance to the learning process, understanding, and authentic performance. It discusses the opportunities created by Generative AI, such as personalized learning, automated feedback, and better accessibility for learners with different needs. At the same time, the study examines important challenges, including academic dishonesty, excessive dependence on AI tools, and concerns about the originality of student work. The findings reveal that although Generative AI has great potential to improve teaching and learning, it also requires changes in teaching methods and assessment practices. The study emphasizes the importance of using AI in a balanced and ethical manner while preserving essential human values such as critical thinking, creativity, and ethical responsibility in an AI-driven educational environment.
