Analyzing the Influence of Educational Institutions on Scheduled Caste Students: A Comparison of Ambedkar Residential Schools and Jawahar Navodaya Vidalayas in Bihar

Education can be defined as the progressive adjustment of a person to their physical, moral, social, and spiritual environment. The comprehensive cultivation of an individual's abilities is crucial for exerting influence on one's environment and achieving personal fulfillment. In spite of various provisions in Indian constitution, people of scheduled caste experience a variety of infirmities that are controlled by their religious practices and beliefs. Untouchability, poor socioeconomic position, segregation, a lack of political influence, a low level of education, and social mobility are some characteristics they have in common. All these together reinforce the conditions of the Scheduled Castes. The study encompassed the entire students of scheduled caste class IX as population, who were enrolled in the Government Ambedkar Residential School and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Bihar. The study's sample size consisted of 400 participants. The researcher selected a sample of 200 children from the scheduled caste category attending Government Ambedkar Residential School, as well as 200 students from Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya in Bihar. The data was collected through the Self-Confidence Inventory developed by Dr. Rekha Gupta in the year (2013), School Environment Inventory developed by Dr. Karuna Shankar Misra (2012), parental encouragement scale developed by Dr. Kusum Agarwal (2019), and Adjustment Inventory developed by A.K.P. Sinha and Dr. R.P. Singh in (2005). For analyzing the all the objectives researcher has used Mann Whitney ‘U’ Test. The findings showed that that the academic-achievement of SC students studying in JNVS was more than SC students studying in JNVS. Students of JNVS have high Self-Confidence than Government Ambedkar Residential School. The possible reasons of the higher Self-Confidence among Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya may be the environment at their home on the one hand and the schooling environment on the other jointly constitutes the educational opportunities for a child. Moreover, Parental Encouragement of SC students studying in JNVS is found to be greater than SC students studying in GARS. Also, the Adjustment of SC students studying in JNVS was greater than SC students studying in GARS.
