Personality theory has had radical transformations over time, shifting from the old deterministic models to newer and more holistic ones. In this article, goes through the different personality theories, such as psychoanalytic, trait-based, humanistic, and biological perspectives, and discuss their advantages and drawbacks. Freud’s psychoanalytic approach was the first to deal with unconscious influences and foretold the thoughts of the subsequent theoreticians. Humanistic theories were primarily established by Maslow Rogers who switched from the psyche to personal growth and self-actualization. Trait theories, especially the Big Five, brought a systematized way of grading different human characteristics proving to be a methodical concept. Behaviorism and social cognitive theories inter-injected the emerging role of environment with the indirectly connected brain structures to social this while the biologic and evolutive point of view checks the gene and neurological effect on the thought. The paper deals with the fusion of these perspectives into modern frameworks such as the biopsychosocial model, which takes personality as a dynamic interaction between biological, social, and cognitive factors. The integration is indicative of a broadened perception of personality as a composite construction, the completeness of which is confirmed by different influences exerting an influence on individual dispositions.
