The Indian knowledge system is the transmission of knowledge from one generation to the next. It is a structured system that is a process of knowledge exchange rather than tradition. The Indian knowledge system is based on Vedic literature, Upanishads, Vedas and Upavedas. (National Education Policy) identifies this rich heritage of ancient and eternal Indian knowledge and thought as a guiding principle. Indian knowledge systems include knowledge, science and philosophy of life. National Education 2020 recommends that indigenous ways of learning knowledge of ancient India, knowledge traditions will be covered in all disciplines at both school and higher education levels. All students should be introduced to great Indian scholars like Charak, Panini, Aryabhatta, Bhaskaracharya, Knaad, Chanakya, etc., and places of education and research like Takshashila, Vallabhi, Vikramshila, etc., so that this rich heritage of knowledge can be preserved, nurtured and applied in the present day.
