A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF SOCIAL COMPETENCE AND SELF-ESTEEM OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

The present study was conducted with the intend to compare social competence and self-esteem of secondary school students. The study was conducted to a sample of 400 secondary school students of 9"' class studying in Government and Private schools of Jammu Division. Self-Esteem Inventory prepared by M.S. Prasad and G.P. Thakur (1977) and Social Competence Scale (SCS) constructed and standardized by Sharma, Shukla and Shukla (1992) was used to collect data. The collected data was analyzed with the help of't' test. The results of the study showed that female students having positive self, negative self and balanced self have found socially more competent than their counterparts.
